Snetterton
Flat Norfolk airfield circuit whose 4.8km 300 layout mixes two tight hairpins, a long Bentley Straight and the cambered Bomb Hole and Coram curves.

Snetterton is a former wartime airfield beside the A11 in Norfolk, and it's been a race track since 1951. The big change came in 2011 when MSV added the 300 layout, around 4.8km and 12 corners, which roughly doubled the infield and turned a quick but simple track into a proper technical lap. It's on the British Superbike and BTCC calendars and it's MSV's busiest venue for open track days in the east.
The 300 is the layout for almost every track day. It's flat and wide, with good run-off and plenty of room to learn, so it's very friendly for first-timers. There's a lot to get right though: two slow hairpins, a long, fiddly infield section, and the Bentley Straight, which is one of the longest in the country. Big-power cars and litre bikes love it, and smaller cars still have plenty to work on in the twisty bits.

Riches is turn one, a fast double-apex right. Brake gently, the front tyres don't like being overloaded here, and stay off the tall first kerb. Next is Wilson (it was called Montreal until 2016), the tightest corner on the circuit. Brake late using the three, two and one boards, look a long way round because the apex comes late, and use the triangular exit kerb as your guide. Palmer is a long left that needs very little braking. Be smooth, because a sharp lift here can get the rear moving.
Agostini is a left hairpin with a late apex and a kerb you can use. Then comes Hamilton, a tricky medium-speed left with almost no braking zone, aimed at the big block on the inside. Get straight over to the left for Oggies, a slow right that opens up, and stay off the grass-crete on the inside because the bump will unsettle the car.
Williams is the corner that matters most. It's a medium-fast right that leads onto the Bentley Straight, so give it a lift or a light brush of the brakes and focus on exit speed. At the far end is Brundle, where you're braking and turning at the same time, so brake in two stages and keep the car left after the apex to get a decent line into Nelson, a slow right. Use the inside kerb but avoid the sausage.
Bomb Hole is a cambered medium-fast right that many cars take flat. Turn in earlier than you think and expect the rear to go light as you leave the camber. Coram follows, a long fast arc of almost 180 degrees that you take flat at the start, then brake before the slow left of Murrays. Keep right on the way in, don't use the sausage, and don't run wide on exit, there's a track limits sensor.
Track day tips
- Daytime days usually run 105dB(A) static and 92dB(A) drive-by, and evening sessions drop to 102dB(A) static.
- The Bentley Straight is long enough to cook brakes on heavy cars. Do a cool-down lap before you pull in and don't leave the handbrake on.
- Williams is the corner to get right. A good exit there is worth more on the Bentley Straight than anything you gain on the brakes into Brundle.
- There are several track limits sensors (Palmer, Hamilton and Murrays). Track day organisers don't always police them, but use them as a guide to where the road ends.
- It's very flat and exposed. Wind across the Bentley Straight is common, and the Norfolk weather can change sessions quickly.
- Bring a spare set of pads if your car is heavy. Wilson, Agostini and Brundle are all big stops and the day adds up.
