Editorial policy
Where our track day dates, circuit guides and lap records come from, how they're checked, and how we keep advertising separate.
Pit Lane Open is a free guide to track days for car drivers and bike riders in the UK and Europe. This page explains how the information on the site is gathered and checked, and where the line sits between what we publish and how the site is paid for.
Track day dates
Dates are collected every day from calendars that organisers and circuits publish publicly, including feeds some organisers provide for this purpose. Each date links to the organiser's own booking page. Prices, noise limits and availability are shown as the organiser publishes them. They can change after we check, so always confirm with the organiser before you book or travel.
Circuit and organiser guides
Circuit guides, organiser profiles and the other guides on the site are written and checked by Chris Pollitt, who runs Pit Lane Open. They draw on circuit and organiser information, official noise and safety rules, and first-hand track day experience. Each guide is reviewed when circuits or organisers change their rules, and at least once a year.
Lap records
Lap times on the leaderboard are sent in by drivers and riders. Each one is checked by hand before it appears, and anything that looks wrong is rejected. If you think a time is wrong, please tell us.
Advertising and commission
The site is paid for by adverts shown by Google AdSense, and may in future include links to organisers or insurers that pay a small commission if you book. That never changes the price you pay, and it does not decide which organisers we list or what we say about them. Every organiser we can find is listed, whether they pay us or not.
Safety
Our guides are general information to help you prepare. They are not a substitute for the organiser's briefing, the circuit's rules or professional tuition. Always follow the organiser and marshals on the day.
Corrections
If a date, price or detail is wrong, or you run track days and want your calendar added or corrected, get in touch. Corrections are made as quickly as we can.
