Caterham track days in the UK
The Seven was built for this. Here's where to take one, the roll bar you'll need, and the circuits where a side exit can catch you out.
A Caterham Seven is about as natural a track car as you can buy, and you'll see them at every UK circuit. You can take one on any normal open pit lane day, but there are two clubs worth knowing about.
Caterham and Lotus Seven Club
The Caterham and Lotus Seven Club runs its own track days for members, in Caterhams and Lotus Sevens only. In 2026 it ran around nine, at Castle Combe, Cadwell Park, Brands Hatch GP, Oulton Park, Mallory Park and Donington, priced from about £225 to £399 for a car and driver. Its novice days at Castle Combe and Mallory are a good way in. They come with free one-to-one tuition from ARDS instructors, an extended briefing, and early sessions with no more than nine cars out before it opens up. Membership is £55 a year, and you don't need to own a car to join. The 2027 dates aren't out yet.
Lotus on Track
Lotus on Track is a Lotus owners' club, but it accepts Caterhams too. A Seven needs at least the upgraded track day roll bar with the extra cross bracing, and a full six-point cage at Bilster Berg, Dijon and Spa. Its upcoming days are listed below.

The roll bar
This is the one that catches people out. The standard Caterham roll bar isn't accepted at the club's track days. You'll need at least the Caterham "trackday" or "FIA" bar, which did a lot better in crash testing. A bar with one or two diagonal braces across the main hoop is almost certainly one of those. Most organisers want a full-face helmet in an open car, and some, like Trackdays.co.uk, insist on it.
Noise
A standard rear-exit Caterham is usually fine. The side exits are a different story, and owners report them reading around 98dB static. That's fine at a 105dB circuit, but a problem at Thruxton (90dB static) and on Bedford's 87.5dB drive-by, where owners report Caterhams being black-flagged. Owners report SuperTrapp-style discs knocking off about 7dB. If you've got a side exit, check the limit for your day before you book.
Don't own one?
Trackdays.co.uk hires out a 180bhp Seven with an FIA cage and harnesses for £1,650 plus the track day, usable on any UK day with a noise limit above 93dB. MSV hires a PalmerSport Caterham at Bedford. Caterham Cars itself ran Caterham-only days with MSV in 2023, but we haven't seen any since.
Insurance
Your road policy almost certainly won't cover you on track, and specialist track policies usually cover damage to your own car only. Read our track day insurance guide before you go. If you're driving to the circuit, the car needs a valid MOT as normal.
Noise limits at the circuits that matter
These are the usual limits. Organisers sometimes run quieter or noisier days, so always check the day you book. There's more on how testing works in our noise limits guide.
| Circuit | Noise limits |
|---|---|
| Thruxton | Static limit 90dB(A) on track days, one of the strictest in the UK (check each event) |
| Bedford Autodrome | 101dB(A) static and 87.5dB(A) drive-by |
| Castle Combe | Varies by day: open car track days have been listed at 100dB(A) static with an 87dB(A) drive-by, while some club and private days run at 105dB(A) static (check each event) |
| Brands Hatch | Usually 105dB(A) static (some quiet days 102dB(A)) and 92dB(A) drive-by measured at 20m (check each event) |
| Goodwood Motor Circuit | Standard days 98dB(A) static and 96dB(A) drive-by; low-numbers days 105dB(A) static and 101dB(A) drive-by (check each event) |
| Cadwell Park | 105dB(A) static measured at 0.5m (drive-by limits vary by event, check each listing) |
| Oulton Park | Track days usually run to 105dB(A) static and 92dB(A) drive-by (check each event) |
| Donington Park | Usually no static test, with a 98dB(A) drive-by limit; occasional noisy days run at 108dB(A) (check each event) |
| Snetterton | Daytime track days usually 105dB(A) static and 92dB(A) drive-by; evening events drop to 102dB(A) static (check each event) |
Caterham track days: questions people ask
Can I take my Caterham on a normal track day?
Yes. Any open pit lane day will take a road-legal Seven. Wear a full-face helmet, check the noise limit if you have a side exit, and make sure the roll bar meets the organiser's rules.
What roll bar do I need for Caterham club track days?
At least the Caterham trackday or FIA roll bar. The standard bar isn't accepted at Caterham and Lotus Seven Club days. Lotus on Track wants the upgraded bar with cross bracing, and a full cage at a few European circuits.
Will a side-exit Caterham pass the noise test?
Usually at 105dB circuits, but owners report side exits around 98dB static, which fails at Thruxton (90dB) and can trip Bedford's 87.5dB drive-by.
Who can go on Caterham and Lotus Seven Club track days?
Club members only, in Caterhams or Lotus Sevens. Membership is £55 a year.
