Kit car track days in the UK

Kit-car-only days are rare, so here's how to find a day that will take your car, and what to sort out first.

We'll be straight with you: kit-car-only track days hardly exist in the UK any more. The last dedicated one we could find was KitFest at Castle Combe in 2014. That doesn't mean you can't take your kit car on track. Most open pit lane days will take a road-legal kit car, as long as it passes scrutineering and the noise test on the day. It just pays to check the rules before you book.

Clubs that run track days

The Westfield Sports Car Club, founded in 1986 and covering Westfields and other Seven-type kit cars, is the biggest kit car club in the UK. Its areas run their own track days, at circuits like Donington and Curborough, but the calendar is behind a members' login. If you own a Westfield it's worth joining. GBS, the maker of the GBS Zero, has run its own track day at Blyton Park with Javelin Trackdays, most recently in April 2026.

Two clubs you might expect to help won't. The Caterham and Lotus Seven Club's days are for Caterhams and Lotus Sevens only, and Lotus on Track doesn't accept kit cars. Past MX-5 Owners Club days at Blyton Park did take kit cars built on MX-5 parts, so if yours is MX-5-based it's worth asking.

Upcoming Kit car-only and club days

None listed right now. Club calendars usually come out over the winter, and we add them here as soon as they're published. In the meantime, any open pit lane day on our full calendar will take your car.

Open cars and safety kit

Most kit cars are open, and organisers have rules for that. Trackdays.co.uk makes a full-face helmet with a visor compulsory in any open or soft-top car, with arms and legs covered. At Bedford, MSV won't give instruction in an open car unless you have an intercom. Fit the best roll-over protection you can. Some organisers have asked for race-spec roll-over protection before letting Seven-type cars into certain sessions.

Noise

The static test is taken half a metre from the exhaust at 45 degrees, with the engine at three-quarters of its maximum revs. Most UK circuits allow 105dB static. Castle Combe is 100dB (tested at 4,500rpm), Bedford is 101dB static with an 87.5dB drive-by, and Thruxton is the quietest at 90dB static. A lot of kit cars run sports or side exhausts, so check your car's reading against the limit for your day before you book.

Insurance

A standard policy, even a fully comprehensive one, almost certainly won't cover you on track. Some kit car insurers offer a track day add-on. Footman James, for example, offers one or three days a year on its kit car policies, for drivers aged 30 or over with previous track experience, at Motorsport UK-approved circuits, with cover up to £50,000 and an excess of £1,500 or 10%, whichever is greater. Read our track day insurance guide for the general picture.

Noise limits at the circuits that matter

These are the usual limits. Organisers sometimes run quieter or noisier days, so always check the day you book. There's more on how testing works in our noise limits guide.

Kit car track days: questions people ask

Can I take a kit car on a track day?

Yes, on most open pit lane days, as long as it's road legal and passes scrutineering and the noise test. Check the organiser's rules on helmets and roll-over protection for open cars first.

Are there kit-car-only track days?

Hardly any. The last dedicated one we found was KitFest at Castle Combe in 2014. Clubs like the Westfield Sports Car Club run days for their members, and GBS has run its own day at Blyton Park.

Can a Westfield go on Caterham club track days?

No. Caterham and Lotus Seven Club days are for Caterhams and Lotus Sevens only. Lotus on Track doesn't accept kit cars either.

Does my kit car insurance cover track days?

Usually not as standard, but some kit car insurers sell a track day add-on with conditions on age, experience and the circuits you use.
