MX-5 track days in the UK
Every generation of MX-5 is a laugh on track. Here's where the MX-5-only days are, and the few things to sort before you go.
The MX-5 might be the most common car at a UK track day, and it doesn't really matter which generation you've got. The NA, NB, NC and ND are all good fun on a circuit in standard form. You can take one on any open pit lane day, but there are a couple of MX-5-only options too.
MX-5-only weekends at Blyton Park
The MX-5 Owners Club runs an MX-5-only track weekend at Blyton Park with Mazda on Track, who handle the booking. In June 2026 it was £320 for both days. The next one is on 24 and 25 July 2027, with an early booking discount and money off if you book both days. Past club days at Blyton have also taken kit cars built on MX-5 parts, and they've given novices the track to themselves for the first 20 minutes.
Curborough challenge days
The club also runs challenge days at Curborough. These are timed runs with one car on the track at a time, not open track days, but at £48 a car they're a cheap way to learn what your MX-5 can do. Cars must be road legal, with no slicks, and pass a 105dB static noise test.

Helmets and tow eyes
Most organisers want a full-face helmet if you're driving with the roof down, and Trackdays.co.uk insists on one with a visor in any soft top. NA and NB cars have a permanent towing eye in the grille. On the NC and ND you'll need to screw the towing eye in before you go out.
Tyres, brakes and oil
Hot tyre pressures can climb by as much as 10psi in a session, so check them when you come in. Sessions of 10 to 15 minutes are about right. On the NA and NB, the standard brakes heat up quickly on track, so fresh high-temperature fluid and decent pads are worth it. Hard cornering and braking slosh the oil around in the sump, which is why baffle kits are made for the NA, NB and NC.
Noise
A standard MX-5 is quiet enough for anywhere. If you've fitted a louder backbox, take the original with you. At Bedford (87.5dB drive-by) and Thruxton (90dB static) that might be the difference between driving and going home.
No MX-5?
Trackdays.co.uk hires out a 2.0 MX-5 for £1,395 plus the track day, with insurance included. It can be used on any UK day with a noise limit above 93dB. Mazda UK even took a group of MX-5s to the UK's first unlit night track day, at Anglesey in January 2025.
Noise limits at the circuits that matter
These are the usual limits. Organisers sometimes run quieter or noisier days, so always check the day you book. There's more on how testing works in our noise limits guide.
| Circuit | Noise limits |
|---|---|
| Blyton Park | 95dB(A) drive-by on listed Outer Circuit track days (static limit not published, check each event) |
| Bedford Autodrome | 101dB(A) static and 87.5dB(A) drive-by |
| Thruxton | Static limit 90dB(A) on track days, one of the strictest in the UK (check each event) |
| Castle Combe | Varies by day: open car track days have been listed at 100dB(A) static with an 87dB(A) drive-by, while some club and private days run at 105dB(A) static (check each event) |
| Cadwell Park | 105dB(A) static measured at 0.5m (drive-by limits vary by event, check each listing) |
| Oulton Park | Track days usually run to 105dB(A) static and 92dB(A) drive-by (check each event) |
| Snetterton | Daytime track days usually 105dB(A) static and 92dB(A) drive-by; evening events drop to 102dB(A) static (check each event) |
| Donington Park | Usually no static test, with a 98dB(A) drive-by limit; occasional noisy days run at 108dB(A) (check each event) |
MX-5 track days: questions people ask
Are there MX-5-only track days?
Yes. The MX-5 Owners Club runs an MX-5-only weekend at Blyton Park with Mazda on Track. The next one is on 24 and 25 July 2027.
Which MX-5 is best for a track day?
Any of them. The NA, NB, NC and ND are all fine on track in standard form. Fresh brake fluid, good pads and the right tyre pressures matter more than which generation you have.
Do I need a full-face helmet in an MX-5?
If you're driving with the roof down, most organisers want one, and some insist on it in any soft top. Check the organiser's rules before you go.
Is my MX-5 too loud for a track day?
Not in standard form. Louder aftermarket backboxes can fail at Bedford and Thruxton, so take the original with you if you've changed it.
